Like in 2013, a case of molestation was given a communal colour in Muzaffarnagar’s Budhana district. BJP MLA from Budhana, Umesh Malik, made provocative comments fueling tensions in the area. In the stone pelting that ensued, people people from Hindu Yuva Vahini were seen along with the police. Several Muslims from the township have been arrested.
