ज़िला शामली के किसान लागतार बकाया गन्ना भुगतान को लेकर शामली शुगर मिल के अंदर 20 दिनों से अनिश्चितकालीन धरने पर हैं, 16 अक्टूबर 2024 को इतने दिनों से बैठे किसानों की बात प्रशासन द्वारा न सुने जाने से नाराज़ किसानों ने शामली गुरुद्वारा चौराहे को जाम कर दिया। किसानों का कहना हैं कि जब तक मांग पूरी नहीं होती हमारा धरना जारी रहेगा। हालांकि प्रशासन के आश्वासन के बाद किसान वापस शामली शुगर मिल के अंदर धरना स्थल पर पहुंच गए और वहीं धरने पर बैठ गए।

Farmers in the Shamli district have been staging an indefinite protest inside the Shamli Sugar Mill for 20 days, demanding their pending sugarcane payments. On October 16, 2024, frustrated by the administration’s lack of response, the farmers blocked the Shamli Gurudwara intersection. The farmers stated that their protest will continue until their demands are met. However, after assurances from the administration, the farmers returned to the protest site inside the Shamli Sugar Mill and resumed their sit-in.
